Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4).
Many have misconceptions about the scripture above because theyβre not familiar with the use of prophetic language. When the Lord Jesus made this statement, He wasnβt talking about the mourning of a loved one; rather, He was talking as a prophet.

When you study the lives of the Old Testament prophets in the Bible, youβd often read of how they put ashes on their heads or tore their clothes as they mourned. On such occasions, they werenβt mourning because they lost something, or someone died! They mourned because of Godβs children who had either gone astray or into captivity. They were concerned with the plight of Godβs people so they mourned in intercession for their deliverance. And when the restoration or deliverance came, the prophets were comforted.

Some Christians are less concerned about the well being of fellow believers. They hear that a particular brother or sister doesnβt go to church anymore, yet theyβre unperturbed. This ought not to be so! Just as the prophets were concerned about the Israelites, we also must be concerned about the plight of other believers around us and throughout the world. How often do you pray for the persecuted, the distressed, the backslidden and the sick in our midst or around the world? If you havenβt been doing this consistently, then you must begin today!
In Exodus 32, God was on the verge of destroying the entire Israelite nation because of their disobedience, but Moses stood in His way in prayer. He stood in the gap for the children of Israel, seeking the mercy of God on their behalf. Moses strongly connected himself to the people, and the Bible says, βSo even though the LORD had threatened to destroy the people, he changed his mind and let them liveβ (Exodus 32:14 CEV). Hallelujah!

This should be your attitude towards other believers around you. Donβt become cold-hearted; realize that itβs your spiritual obligation to intercede in prayer for them. Jesus said youβre blessed when you do this, for youβll be comforted. That means your prayers will yield the desired results.
Say these after with me, βDear heavenly Father, I pray that your grace, mercy and strength will mantle the hearts of your children all over the world, who, today are experiencing one challenge or the other! I ask that they experience the speedy intervention of your Spirit, and the ministry of angels, right now, and that the miracle they require will reach them by free course, in Jesusβ Name. Amen.
Colossians 4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God
Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you
