DIRECTION AND REST (PART 3)

PASTOR SAM ADEYEMI

DIRECTION AND REST (PART 3) – PASTOR SAM ADEYEMI

Psalm 23:1-6 (KJV)

  1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
  2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
  3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
  4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
  5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
  6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Amazing things happen when we hear from God, obey His voice and act on it.

God is not scrambling around looking for how to meet your needs, everything we need was created before Adam and Eve, we just need the supernatural influence of God to access His resources.

If it is God leading you, everything is going to be okay.

When God speaks to you, there is an impartation of faith and courage into your heart.

Nobody can do anything to you that God has not permitted as long as you are in His will.

We may look ordinary but on the inside we are 10,000 times bigger because of the capacity of The Holy Spirit in us.

Two Kinds Of Leading:

  1. Subjective Leading
  2. Objective Leading

Subjective leading is when God speaks to you and you hear Him but there are no proofs or physical evidence.

Objective leading is when God speaks to you and there are physical proofs which means God goes ahead to influence certain circumstances.

Some parts of Christianity tend to emphasize more on either subjective or objective leading depending on their ideological leaning.

It is best that we are flexible and open to any of the leadings because at any point in time God has full control of how He communicates with us.

“I read a story of a Pastor who once heard from God that he was to go and do a crusade on a certain Island. He announced it to the Church and they planned and made detailed arrangements to go to the Island and win souls for the Lord. They boarded a plane arrived at the airport and had to use a boat to get to the Island. While they were midway on the sea the Captain of the boat asked what they were going to do and they told him about the crusade. He told them that was interesting because nobody lived on the Island and truly when they arrived on the Island, there was no one there. The moral of the story is that if they had made findings about the Island, they would have found out that no one lived there and then prayed again to God for clarity on what to do.”

The Holy Spirit in us is the primary way God leads us.

God speaks to us through our conscience, some people call it an inner voice. Acts 24:16 – “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.”

The state of your conscience is very important to God and you keep your conscience clear by keeping your motives pure.

When it comes to hearing from God, let your motive for that be pure. Don’t be out to use God as a talisman, only running to Him when you are in trouble and not spending time with Him.

The primary thing God wants from us is intimacy and when we get the intimacy right hearing God will flow naturally.

What are your motives for praying?
James 4:3 – “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”

Love people genuinely, love God genuinely and you won’t have obstacles in your heart to the flow of communication between you and God.

God uses the conscience to guide us and when our motives are not pure, our conscience becomes muddled.

Sometimes we hear ourselves, we know what we want to do and we really want to do it then we ask God to rubber-stamp it. We ask God to work with what we want. Romans 2:14-16 KJV – “14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.”

The conscience tells us what is right or wrong per time. – James 4:17 KJV (Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.)

If you want to know the will of God, listen to the voice of your conscience, and keep your motives pure.

God uses that inner feeling to reach and direct us like a traffic light. Sometimes you want to do something and you feel reluctant. I can’t count how many times I have felt reluctant about things and didn’t do them and I was right.

Be sensitive to the ideas and pictures that come to your mind.

Another powerful way that God speaks to us is through our thoughts.

Thoughts are tangible in the spiritual world and they have value.

When God designed man, He gave man the capacity to think. Our capacity for dominion and mastery on this planet stems from the realm of thoughts. We make contact with God’s word in the realm of thoughts.

Pay attention to the ideas and pictures that come to your mind, some may come from the things you’ve taken in but then some are of spiritual origin.

People tell me, God has never spoken to me before and I say to them; “has the Devil spoken to you before?” They say yes and I ask how and they say the Devil puts wrong ideas in their minds.

The Devil is a spirit, God is a Spirit and if you notice when the thoughts to do bad comes to your mind, it is spontaneous and it comes with a sensation.

God also speaks through thoughts. The two of them are competing for your mind because that is the launching pad for everything you will become and achieve on this planet.

Pay attention to the thoughts, pictures, and ideas that come to your mind and with time you will know the ones that come from God. It will be spontaneous and will come with a sensation.

In Luke 24, after the resurrection of Jesus, two of His disciples were on their way to Emmaus when Jesus joined them and asked what they were discussing. He then went on to explain the scriptures to them and when they arrived at their destination, he broke bread and their eyes opened and then Jesus disappeared. But they said something interesting, they said; “Did our hearts not burn when he was speaking to us on the way?”

Meditation in the life of a believer is seriously encouraged.

God also speaks through dreams and trances.

Acts 16:6-10 – is a clear example of objective and subjective leading. – “6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, 7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. 8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.”

Stay on God’s frequency

Job 32:8 KJV – “But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.”

Stay inspired through prayer and worship, it keeps you tuned to God’s frequency.

Take time to read your bible always, that is how you learn the language of God.

Finally, practice obedience.

The reason why most of us are not hearing from God is that we have not practiced the last thing God said.

Your life will be filled with supernatural coincidences, God will deliver you from danger and your life will be sweet when you practice obedience.

John 5:19-21 KJV – “19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. 21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.”

PRAYERS:

Father I ask that you pour out your Spirit on everyone that is a part of this service. Let The Holy Spirit be real to us, let your presence be real to us.

Father we declare, every obstacle to hearing from you is destroyed, every contamination of the conscience is destroyed.

We are delivered from guilt and condemnation.

Thank you for making it possible for us to call you Father in Jesus name we pray. Amen
