“INTERGRITY AND SOCIETY”

“INTERGRITY AND SOCIETY” – PASTOR W. F. KUMUYI

KEY VERSE: “Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully” – 2 Kings 22:7

TEXT: 2 Kings 22:1-7 (KJV)

1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

3 And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the Lord, saying,

4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:

5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the Lord: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the Lord, to repair the breaches of the house,

6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

7 Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

According to sociologists and political scientists, society is a mirror of its leaders. Those at the helm, they conclude from several generational studies, would pass to the led what they possess as their virtues or vices. They admonish therefore that the process of choosing or electing rulers must be thorough to lead to a salutary outcome, where leaders of probity would be positioned to spread their positive influence and integrity to the entire citizenry.

Josiah became king of the kingdom of Judah at the age of eight, after succeeding his evil-inclined father. He “did that which was right in the sight of the LORD…” His righteous reign so influenced the society that the authorities did not experience undue concerns over those entrusted with huge funds for repairs of the Temple, “because they dealt faithfully.”

If nations across the globe recognise the impact of godly leadership as a strategic success factor, the world would enjoy great peace and enduring prosperity meant for us by our loving Creator. But, it has not been so. Leadership in the institutions of society is steeped in corruption and unethical conducts. Their subjects are also neck-deep in the mire of corruption and, the whole humanity is entangled in self-destructive actions daily.

So it seemed in the days of Josiah. But his righteous leadership style turned the tide and brought about a new society of men and women who could be fully trusted with delicate public office and funds. God saw a king who was determined to cooperate with Him and abide by His laws in ruling His people. So He ensured that the virtues in Josiah’s life were reflected in his subjects. Godly leaders are needed to create godly citizens. But our role is to promote righteousness that will exalt our nation.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Integrity is a virtue that builds a godly and prosperous nation.
