RIGHTEOUSNESS CONSCIOUSNESS.

For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21).

God made Jesus to be sin, not a mere “sin offering” or “sin sacrifice,” but sin itself, so that we might become, not just righteous, but the righteousness of God—the very essence or representation of divine righteousness. What a blessed reality!

Now, when we read that God made Jesus who knew no sin, to be sin for us, the expression, “Who knew no sin” in the original Greek rendering is a very powerful, though complex construction. It’s actually talking about Jesus being conscious of a “no sin”; that’s one of the best ways to express it in English, howbeit that would be an incomprehensible expression.

The best way to communicate what the Scripture says here is that Jesus was “sinlessness-conscious.” Which means, it wasn’t just about God declaring Him to be sinless, but that Jesus, of Himself, had a consciousness of sinlessness; He was conscious of His own sinlessness. So, when we talk about righteousness consciousness, we’re speaking in real spiritual language. The One who knew no sin; who had a consciousness of His own sinlessness, was made sin, that we might be made God’s righteousness. What a Gospel!

Jesus came to make you a bona fide, legal and vital child of God. He came to make you the righteousness of God in human flesh. Become conscious of your righteousness in Him, just as He was conscious of His sinlessness.

Your righteousness is perfect righteousness, being the righteousness of Jesus Christ, given to you as a gift, following the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on your behalf. Colossians 1:22 tells us the result of His vicarious death: it was to present you guiltless, holy, unblameable and unreproveable in the sight of God. This is who you are today: holy, justified, glorified, and acceptable before God. Maintain this consciousness.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for your nature of righteousness in my spirit that produces your rightness in all I do. Sin has no dominion over my life; I’m conscious of my sinlessness, just as Jesus was. My life is a manifestation of God’s righteousness. Thank you Lord, for I’m unblameable and irreprovable in your sight, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
