THE LIFTING UP OF OUR HANDS.

THE LIFTING UP OF OUR HANDS BY PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME.

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice (Psalm 141:2).

David was well acquainted with the priestly ministry of the Old Testament. Being a prophet of God, he had a revelation of the new dispensation that should follow the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. In our opening verse, he spoke prophetically and likened the evening sacrifice to the lifting of hands in worship.

THE LIFTING UP OF OUR HANDS

When your hands are lifted up in worship, you’re declaring that you’ve accepted the judgment of the Lamb of God—Jesus Christ—for your sins and have yielded to Him! You’re affirming that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made you free from the law of sin and death. When your hands are lifted up, that’s the time to adore the Lord and offer sacrifice of joy that springs from a heart full of love and thanksgiving. It’s not a time to beg and cry out of pain or sorrow.

Whenever you’re in a congregation and the minister says, “Lift your hands in worship to the Lord,” don’t get tired and put your hands down so quickly. Keep them up, knowing that you’re fulfilling your priestly ministry to the Lord. Moses found out something powerful about this when the children of Israel were to fight against Amalek. Aaron and Hur, on that occasion, observed that whenever Moses lifted his hands, Israel prevailed. However, as soon as his hands came down, Israel began to lose. Hence, both men got Moses a stone to sit on and held up both his hands. As long as Moses’ hands were up, Israel prevailed (Exodus 17:9-14). There’s victory in the lifting up of your hands.

Paul also understood the importance of lifting our hands in worship when he said by the Spirit, “I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands without wrath and doubting” (1 Timothy 2:8). If you’ve been experiencing challenges or difficulties in your life that don’t seem to go away, maybe this is what you haven’t done yet. When you pray with your hands lifted up, it’s a signal of victory in the realm of the spirit; you’ll prevail over that situation and have the dominion!

CONFESSION
Gracious heavenly Father, I thank you for giving me such a wonderful life; you’ve given me all I could ever want for an extraordinary life of glory, beauty, righteousness and dominion; for this, I praise you with my whole heart, and with my hands lifted in honour of your majesty; in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
