THE MYSTERY OF ONE FLESH! – FAITH OYEDEPO
Dear Reader,
Welcome once again to another time with God in this column. It has been indeed a great time of refreshing. Having looked into the fundamentals of the mystery of “one flesh”, God’s concept of it and the benefits, I’m most convinced that a glorious marriage is a cheap possibility for you, because you are able to discern God’s perfect will for you.
This week, as I round off this teaching, I like to emphasise that the mystery of “one flesh” is Instituted For Purity!
God’s Word says: Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband (1Corinthians 7:2). That is to say, the mystery of “one flesh”, as seen in the Scriptures, is to check sexual impurities.
God made man with certain basic physiological needs; one of these is sexual needs. But, in satisfying this urge, it ought to be done decently and in order – in the context of marriage.
When sexual urge is satisfied in extra-marital context, it is contrary to God’s nature and what He has ordained. Such acts will be greatly punished with God’s Holy indignation.
However, God expects married couples to give sexual satisfaction to each other. That is why sex, in the context of marriage, is not dirty or sinful as some would have us believe. It is a creation of God and ought to be received for marital enrichment.
As noted earlier, marriage is a union of the spirit, soul and body of any couple. It is, therefore, not complete when the physical or bodily aspect is missing. Sexual union between couples is not just a physical act, it is symbolic of the oneness of the spirit, soul and the mutual submission which God ordained.
God’s Word leaves no room for hanky-panky in the ideal sexual relationship between couples as seen in 1 Corinthians 7:4-5. I emphasise on this because some use sex to punish their partners or to press for some things. The Word of God is against this practice.
Some time ago, it was reported that a woman always give excuses each time her husband approached her for sex. When the situation persisted unabated, the man went outside the matrimonial home to look for satisfaction. Before God, the man has no justification for his actions, but we can say the woman was responsible for his plight. What she did was to help the devil in pushing her husband into sin.
To successfully operate in the mystery of “one flesh”, by giving sex its rightful place, you need to surrender to Jesus if you haven’t. You do this by praying this prayer of faith: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”
If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
