TOPIC: True Love (DCLM Daily Manna 16 August 2025)
KEY VERSE:
“And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it” (2 John 1:6).
TEXT: 2 John 1:1-7 (KJV)
The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Bits & Pieces (August 22, 1991) tells the story of a woman who hated her husband and wanted to hurt him before divorcing him. Following Dr. George W. Crane’s advice, she began showering her husband with compliments, intending to deceive him. However, as she showed him love, her feelings changed, and she later confessed, “Divorce! Never. I love my husband dearly!”

In the same way, grace enabled the elect lady and her children in John’s letter to embrace love rooted in truth. John emphasises that genuine Christian love is not mere sentiment but obedience to God’s commandments. True love is inseparable from truth, obedience, and fellowship in Christ.
At the same time, John warned against false teachers who deny the incarnation of Christ. Today, many competing ideologies spread confusion and deception. Believers must stand firm in the truth of the gospel, living out the reality of Christ’s love in a broken world.
It is inconsistent to claim love for God while disobeying His word. Genuine love requires repentance from sin, obedience to God’s commands, and a consistent walk with Christ. Only then can we show His transforming love to the world.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If you truly love God, you will wholly obey and stay with Him.
Reflection:
Ask yourself today: Does my love for God reflect in my obedience? Commit to showing true love not by words only, but by walking in His commandments.
